Project Profile: Plan-It Recycling & Transfer

When the owner of a small, specialized waste firm was seeking to establish a permanent solid waste transfer facility in Gorham, Maine, he turned to the solid waste and land development experience provided by St.Germain Collins to turn his vision into reality.

Survey and Civil Engineering

St.Germain Collins’ experienced surveyors and professional engineers established existing conditions for the selected property, designed grading and storm water handling structures and integrated the development into the design of the larger subdivision.

Solid Waste Facility Design

Existing elevation differences were utilized and available areas maximized for the efficient drop-off, handling, consolidation and transport of a wide variety of solid wastes. The facility was designed to perform as a residential transfer station for local residents, a universal waste consolidation facility and a commercial recycling and transfer station.

Local Planning Board Approval

Working with municipal officials, St.Germain Collins provided the necessary design criteria and documentation to win local approval for the facility.

Maine DEP Solid Waste Transfer Facility Application

Significant technical issues were surmounted, from storm water management to impacts to onsite wetlands, and the senior project managers at St.Germain Collins adequately demonstrated to regulators at the Maine DEP that the facility was designed and would be operated in a manner that is protective of human health and the environment.

Ongoing Compliance Assistance

Once the permitting & design phase was complete and construction of the facility finished, Plan-It Recycling & Transfer opened its doors and began operations.  St.Germain Collins continues to assist the facility in providing environmental compliance services for its operations.
