Project Profile: Pine Tree Waste, West Bath

Pine Tree Waste senior managers turned to St.Germain Collins to design improvements and facilitate construction of it’s facility in a growing market, allowing the solid waste management company to expand its services to customers in the Midcoast region of Maine.

Transfer and Recycling Facility Redesign

St.Germain Collins redesigned and engineered the facility to include a new transfer building, a construction and demolitions debris recycling and processing facility, an office building and truck scale – greatly improving the waste handling capacity of the site. St.Germain Collins prepared applications and facilitated multiple regulatory approvals for the site, which was segmented in two separate parcels and allowed continued operations at the site:

  • Two Site Plan Reviews from the Town of West Bath
  • Maine DEP Solid Waste Transfer Station Permit Amendment
  • Maine DEP Solid Waste Processing Permit

Storm Water Improvements

Storm water management controls and structures were designed and strengthened to meet new standards for storm water quantity and quality control, and to preserve and protect the forest ecosystem surrounding the site.

Construction Bid Preparation and Oversight

In addition to design and engineering, St.Germain Collins prepared bid documents for each segment of the project and assisted Pine Tree Waste with contractor selection. After contracts were awarded, St.Germain Collins provided construction administration , including inspections, project meetings, and contractor invoice review to ensure that the final project was constructed to design and contract specifications and met client needs.

Client Satisfaction

Pine Tree Waste was very satisfied with the project outcome. In our client’s words,

“The employee and customer feedback on the building has been very positive . . . From start to finish this was an incredible team effort - design, construction, traffic control, etc - everyone demonstrated tremendous patience and professionalism. From my perspective, this program would not have been as successful without Peter's involvement, support and guidance. . . . I truly enjoyed working with Peter. He is a great testament to the quality of St.Germain's work and I can't imagine going into another construction project without his support.”
