Project Profile: Boralex Energy

Boralex Energy generates renewable energy from its biomass boilers in Maine and New York.  Faced with a dwindling supply of wood scraps from lumber operations, Boralex turned to wood chips from construction and demolition debris (C&D) to supplement their fuel supply.  Boralex sought out St.Germain Collins to assist them in permitting the C&D wood as alternate fuel with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection and treated wood with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC).

St.Germain Collins helped Boralex to remain a key player in today’s competitive renewable energy market with services that include:

  • Alternate fuel application & permits
  • Ash analysis and statistical evaulation
  • Coordination of trial burn of waste wood
  • Operations manuals
  • Re-design and engineering of ash handling system
  • Research into fuel yard liner integrity
  • Sampling & analysis protocol for construction & demolition wood fuel
  • Training programs
